Longfield Community Hospice is encouraging local people to start the new year by volunteering for its annual ‘tree-cycling’ campaign, run in partnership with charity JustHelping.
Around 180 volunteers take part each year, collecting thousands of real Christmas trees from homes across Gloucestershire and recycling them into chippings. Last year’s effort saw over 4,100 trees collected, raising £81,000 to support local hospice care.
Among those helping in 2026 will be Caitlin Helbrow from Chalford, who said she volunteered to give back after Longfield cared for her grandmother earlier this year. “Nothing was too much to ask of them,” she said.
Tree collections will run from 10–13 January 2026, and volunteers can sign up by emailing events@longfield.org.uk. The hospice also welcomes businesses able to sponsor vans or fuel, or provide volunteer drivers.
Households can book a collection via the JustHelping website until midnight on 6 January: just-helping.org.uk/register-tree.
All funds raised support people facing life-limiting illness, end of life, or bereavement.
