Superdry founder Julian Dunkerton has plans to install solar panels at No 131 The Promenade.
The Lucky Onion LLP has submitted plans to Cheltenham Borough Council to install the photovoltaic panels on the rooves of 125 and 127 and 133.
The latest planning application for the luxury boutique hotel seeks listed building consent for 131. And it includes the removal of modern conservatory at 133.
Planning consultants working on the scheme say it aligns with their wider strategy for the site and to make the buildings more energy efficient, less reliant on fossil fuels and viable for the future.
The plans include the installation of a low-profile solar array on the modern flat roof of 125-127, individual panels within the set-back roof of 133.
And all installations are designed with reversible fixings and minimal visual impact, according to the planning application.
The proposals also include the removal of a modern glazed conservatory to the north elevation of 133 to reinstate the historic spatial separation between buildings.
Consultants say this will enhance the original Regency villa layout and these proposals have been carefully thought through to improve both the environmental performance and safeguard the historic character of the grade II* listed buildings.
“These proposals seek to enhance the sustainability credentials of the buildings through the installation of photovoltaic panels in unobtrusive positions at the site, while simultaneously improving the setting and character through the removal of a modern conservatory extension,” a the covering letter for the application says.
“The proposed works represent a carefully considered solution to balancing the need to adapt these important heritage assets for a sustainable future.
“The removal of a modern addition and the sensitive installation of renewable energy technology will ensure the continued viable use of these Grade II* listed buildings in a way that does not cause undue harm to their historic significance.”
The proposals are expected to be decided by February 1. Two separate plans to remove the white marquees outside 131 and replace them with a permanent covered area are also yet to be decided.
