A busy road near Cheltenham Spa railway station will be partially closed for nearly a month for electrical works.
There are plans Gloucester Road will be closed south west bound from July 28 to August 22 for National Grid to undertake the works to relocate an electricity substation at the rail station.
County Councillor David Willingham (LD, St Mark’s and St Peter’s) said: “Given its proximity to the station and the risk of congestion, people may need to allow a little bit more time if they are driving to the station to catch a train.
“If National Grid are able to safely expedite these works and be off site sooner, this would be welcome.”
National Grid chiefs say they will endeavour to complete the project as swiftly as possibly.
But they estimate that it will be complete on Friday, August 22.
They said they have chosen to do the work within the school summer holidays to minimise the impact as much as possible.
A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: “Between July 28 and August 22, we will be undertaking works on Gloucester Road near the railway.
“The project, which involves moving one of our substations, is to facilitate upgrades to the railway station.
“To complete the work, a one-way closure will be in operation, with diversionary routes clearly signposted.
“We appreciate that there’s never an ideal time for works of this nature but have timed it to be during the school holidays to minimise disruption as best we can.
“We’d like to thank residents and motorists in Cheltenham for their patience while we complete the project.”
