City Councillor Sebastian Field has today been appointed as the new mayor of Gloucester city in a special mayor making ceremony at Gloucester City Council.
Today’s ceremony saw outgoing Mayor Debbie Llewellyn hand over the reins to Kingsholm and Wotton Councillor Sebastian Field for the 2015/16 council year.
Having represented Kingsholm and Wotton for eight years Liberal Democrat Cllr Sebastian Field lives near the cathedral with his wife Vicki and two stepdaughters Kira and Carys, here and their four cats.
In his spare time Sebastian sings in the cathedral choir and is interested in music, history, culture, books and poetry.
In the new role, he is particularly looking forward to continuing Gloucester’s development as a destination and is keen to combat problems such as homelessness around the city.
As part of the same ceremony Councillor Jim Beeley was appointed as Sheriff of the city, taking over the role from Lise Noakes; and leading prayers at council meetings for the next year will be The Reverend Cannon Nikki Arthy.

Cllr Sebastian Field, Mayor of Gloucester, said: “I’m extremely proud and honoured to be elected as mayor to our fantastic city. I’d like to thank Debbie for being such a great ambassador for us all.
“This is a BiG year for Gloucester with so much happening from the Tall Ships Festival this weekend to being a host city for the Rugby World Cup 2015. We’ve got a lot to be proud of.”
Councilor Field’s charity of the year will be the Superhero Foundation which inspires real-life superheroes to push their limits for a fundraising purpose, while Councillor Beeley’s will be the Gloucestershire Deaf Association.
