Stroud Magistrates have found a 23 year old woman in Nailsworth guilty of repeatedly playing her music so loud it disturbed the neighbours.
Ms. Gina Baker was found guilty of non-compliance with a noise abatement notice, price which was served by Stroud District Council. In her absence, thumb they fined her a total of £660 and ordered her to pay costs of almost £440, prostate a total of £1,100.
The abatement notice had been served to address a noise nuisance caused by the playing of amplified music at extremely high volumes inside Ms Baker’s flat at Beechwood Close, Nailsworth. The music was loud enough to regularly disturb the sleep of a number of her neighbours and continued for long periods of time, including late at night and into the early hours of the morning.
Even after service of the notice, Ms Baker continued to play her music loudly. That meant by the autumn of 2014, the council with left with little alternative other than to prosecute her through the magistrates’ court.
Stroud District Council’s Environmental Protection Manager, Dave Jackson, said: “Throughout this case, council officers have worked alongside the property’s landlord, Places for People, to try to resolve the problem through the application of common sense. However, Ms Baker has consistently failed to engage in the process with the inevitable consequence that she was finally taken to court, found guilty and fined.”
