Businesses in Cheltenham could benefit from superfast broadband thanks to the SuperConnected Cities Voucher Scheme. Currently being rebranded as Superfast Britain, order the scheme enables SME (Small Medium Enterprises) businesses with an eligible postcode to obtain grants of up to £3, site 000 toward superfast broadband installation.
The programme, case which previously ran in 22 cities nationwide, has now been rolled out to a further 28 locations, one of which is Gloucester and the surrounding urban areas. The scheme, which went live this month, will give businesses that struggle with adequate broadband provision for their offices the opportunity to get up to £3,000 off the installation of a superfast broadband system. This improves connectivity, reduces downtime, increases speed and helps improve staff productivity. It can also fund connection at home if this is the main place of work.
Wilf Tomaney, townscape manager at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “We are very pleased that Cheltenham businesses can benefit from this scheme. A high speed broadband connection can transform businesses, boosting productivity and innovation, enhancing communication and connections, all of which ultimately lead to growth. This is brilliant news for Cheltenham.”
Kevan Blackadder, manager of Cheltenham Business Partnership, added: ““I would urge all businesses and retailers to look to take advantage of this scheme. It is also worth businesses in the same street or retail park working together to pool funding and increase the efficiency of the installation. The contacts we are providing will be able to advise you further.”
Cllr Steve Jordan, leader of Cheltenham Borough Council, commented: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with other councils to provide this advantage for Cheltenham businesses.”
Gloucester City Council is the main member but has partnered with Cheltenham Borough Council, Stroud District Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council so the scheme is able to support postcodes in urban Cheltenham, Stroud District and Tewkesbury Borough.
