Police have put a dispersal order in place in Gloucester city centre as part of their continuing work to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB).
The Section 34 order, which came into effect at 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 21 April), will be in place until 3.45pm tomorrow (Thursday 23 April).
It covers part of the city centre including Black Dog Way/Gouda Way to the north, Trier Way to the east, Llanthony Road/Castle Meads Way to the west and St Ann Way/Trier Way to the south.
The order will allow officers to direct any groups of two or more to leave the area for up to 48 hours when they believe the behaviour of the group is likely to result in members of the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed.
It was put in place following numerous reports involving a group of intoxicated people who have been fighting and making threats of violence, shoplifting and causing a nuisance around the city centre.
It follows a similar dispersal order which was put in place last week and a woman was arrested for breaching it.
Inspector James O’Neill from the Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We are continuing to receive reports of anti-social behaviour linked to a group of intoxicated individuals.
“We will not tolerate anyone whose irresponsible behaviour causes a danger to themselves, members of the public and shop owners.
“This order aims to deter them from creating a nuisance in Gloucester city centre, and as we demonstrated last week, we will not hesitate to take action and arrest anyone who breaches it.”
