HRH The Princess Royal officially opened the University of Gloucestershire’s new City Campus in the heart of Gloucester today, marking a major milestone in the regeneration of the city centre.
The Princess Royal joined students, staff, civic leaders and partners at the former Debenhams building in King’s Square, unveiling a ceremonial plaque, signing the visitors’ book and touring the new facilities alongside Vice-Chancellor Dame Clare Marchant.
During her visit, she met students and academic teams based at the campus, as well as representatives from partner organisations involved in delivering public services from the site.
The building opened to students in August 2025 and is now home to the University’s Education, Psychology and Social Work programmes. It also includes shared public facilities, such as a new Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre developed in partnership with the NHS Integrated Care Board, and a public library delivered with Gloucestershire County Council.
The University says the project has already generated £44 million in social value and is playing a pivotal role in revitalising Gloucester city centre.
