British Red Cross volunteers Aaron Brouard from Cheltenham and Leanne Ellul from Gloucester were called out by the fire service after a house fire earlier this year.

They supported a Gloucester woman in the immediate aftermath of the blaze, helping with warmth, reassurance and practical next steps.

The pair helped arrange emergency accommodation, contact insurers, provide clothing and toiletries, and organise access to medication left inside the property.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the support allowed fire crews to focus on dealing with the incident, knowing the resident was being looked after.

The British Red Cross says its volunteers regularly respond to house fires, floods and severe weather across Gloucestershire and the UK.
