The Fire Service were called to a sheep which has become stuck at edge of the River Severn at Wainlode Hill, thumb Norton.
Appliances from Gloucester South and Gloucester North fire stations were mobilised to form an animal rescue team and a boat team.
The animal was rescued uninjured and was returned to the farmer.
The crews were detained at the scene a total of one hour.
