Cheltenham Borough Council has decided to waive certain licence fees to support communities that are planning to celebrate the Queen’s birthday this year.
The initiative will see discretionary licence fees for consent to place objects on the highway and street trading waived for parties held on the weekend of the 11 and 12 June this year. The weekend in June will coincide with Her Majesty’s official birthday celebrations.

This is necessary to ensure that key partners such as Gloucestershire Highways – who are responsible for granting permission to close roads – and others are consulted to ensure a coordinated approach.
Other licences that may be required for street parties are permission to sell alcohol by retail and a permit to do a charity collection.
Councillor Andrew McKinlay, cabinet member for safety and development said: “Street parties are a great part of British life and an opportunity for local communities to come together to celebrate national occasions. We recognise that the Queen’s 90th birthday is a significant national event and one that local communities will want to celebrate.
“In recognition of the significance of the occasion and the positive impact celebrating such events can have on community cohesion and spirit, we have on this occasion decided to waive certain discretionary licence fees to support local communities planning street parties.”
