More than 4,800 parking fines were issued to drivers who parked in Gloucester City Council owned car parks last year generating £111,800 for authority, according to official figures.
However, the amount of drivers being hit with a parking ticket has dropped by almost 2,000 last year compared to 2022.
Gloucester City Council issued 28.6 per cent fewer parking fines in 2023 compared to 2022. In 2022, 6,738 penalty charge notices were issued by the City Council.
However, in 2023 this number decreased to 4,813 penalty charge notices
On average, 13 fines were issued per day in 2023 and 18 in 2022. The fines have led to a decrease in revenue from parking enforcement for the council.
Parking fines generated £162,028.47 for Gloucester City Council in 2022. While in 2023, this figure decreased to £111,790.00. Longsmith Street Car Park emerged as the Gloucester location with the highest number of fines in 2023, with 693 reported.
In the previous year, Longsmith Street Car Park also held the top spot, with 1,322 fines issued. Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at cinch, the UK’s biggest online retailer of used cars. The firm analysed the data.
“These figures should be a reminder for all drivers to carefully check any nearby signs before parking – especially in busy areas or places they aren’t familiar with. Nobody wants to find a parking fine come through their letterbox,” he said.
“Also, if you think the fine is unfair or it’s incorrect, don’t forget you have 28 days to appeal to an independent tribunal.
“And, if it is correct, you might be able to reduce the fine by paying sooner rather than later. ”
Gloucester City Council declined to comment.
