This ‘Liberty & Co’ silver Cymric mantel clock exceeded all expectations to reach a hammer price of more than ten times its estimate in the September Auction of Silver & Plated Ware at Birmingham-based Fellows, selling for £17,000.
The silver clock was not highly valued by the vendor due to a heavily tarnished appearance, who agreed to the estimate of £800-1,200 however it was snapped up by a private collector.
Hallmarked ‘Liberty & Co Ltd, Birmingham 1902’, the front of the piece is embossed with a foliate motif and coupled with stylised numerals on the clock face, it’s appearance makes it an unmistakably fashionable ‘Liberty’ piece.
