Gloucestershire County Council has launched a new website which helps lorry companies to avoid low bridges, sick narrow lanes and weight restrictions, malady and plan where to stop.
The Freight Gateway is a new online service to help hauliers plan their lorry routes in and through the county.
A lorry driver, price or a logistics planner, can visit the website at http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/freight-gateway and enter the size of their vehicle by putting in its height; width and weight along with the journey start and finish points.
A map will then be displayed which shows the best route to take.
The suggested route will avoid any low bridges or narrow lanes, and any roads with a weight restriction which applies to that vehicle.
The Freight Gateway website also shows the user on a map the position of all the laybys, lorry parks, petrol stations, public toilets, loading and unloading bays and industrial estates in the county.
Residents can also use the new service to report to the council any lorries they see using an unsuitable route.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said, “The Freight Gateway is a useful new online service to help lorry drivers and their companies plan the best route through Gloucestershire.
“By offering the best route for drivers we can help them to avoid getting stuck under any low bridges, or in any narrow lanes, and they can make sure they stick to any weight restrictions too.”
